IPL Points Table for 2023
The opening match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place on March 31 at Ahmedabad’s famed Narendra Modi Stadium between the Gujarat Titans, the defending champions, and the Chennai Super Kings.
This season’s competition will include ten teams, with each team playing seven home games and as many away games throughout the course of the league’s 14-match schedule.
The top-4 teams will be given a playoff bye. The top two teams will have an additional opportunity to advance to the finals, while the teams finishing third and fourth must win an elimination round to advance to the second qualifying round, where they will play the losing team from Q1.
2023 IPL Points Table Regulations
Trivia about IPL standingsAfter their 14 league-stage games are over, each of the 10 IPL franchises’ main objective is to place among the top 4 teams in the points standings.
Then, as the top two seeds receive an additional chance to qualify for the IPL Finals, the secondary objective is to place in the top two.
The points that each team earns are used to determine the IPL points table. The position of two teams in the points table is determined based on “Net Run Rate” (NRR) if they both earn the same number of points.
In light of the foregoing, the procedures for accruing points in the IPL points table 2023 are as follows:
For a victory, each team will receive 2 points.
If the game is abandoned or ends abruptly with a No Result, each team receives one point.
If a team loses, they receive no points.
The ‘Net Run Rate’ is calculated to ascertain the teams’ final positions in the event that multiple teams finish with a comparable number of points.
The difference between a team’s “number of runs scored by the team to the number of overs faced” and “number of runs conceded by the team to the number of overs bowled” in the same competition is used to determine that team’s NRR.
Trivia about IPL standings
In the history of the IPL, no team has ever advanced to the Playoffs with fewer than 12 points.
The only two teams to have earned 4 points in an IPL season are Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and Deccan Chargers (now no longer in existence), making them the teams with the lowest point totals overall.
Only two teams have never placed first in the Indian Premier League Points table and gone on to win the competition: Kolkata Knight Riders and the now-defunct Deccan Chargers.
The only team in IPL history to place first in the points standings but never take home the championship is Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). Three times, they have done it.
In the IPL 2020, two sets of three teams were tied on the same amount of points (Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings, and Rajasthan Royals were tied on 12 each, while Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Kolkata Knight Riders were tied on 14).
In the 2010 IPL, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), and Kolkata Knight Riders all had 14 points.
The Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020 had the greatest NRR at the conclusion of the league stage, while Kings XI Punjab (now known as Punjab Kings) had the lowest with -1.436.
A team can score a maximum of 22 points throughout a given IPL season. Rajasthan Royals in 2008, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2012, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians in 2013, and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2014 were the teams to accomplish it.
For the first time in their history, the Mumbai Indians placed 10th in the IPL 2022.
Note that the IPL 2023 Points Table has not been taken into account for these fun facts.
What does the IPL Points Table term “for/against score points” mean?
The ‘for’ represents the total number of runs scored and wickets lost by that specific side during the whole IPL season, while the ‘against’ represents the total number of runs given up and wickets taken during the entire IPL season.
How does NRR affect IPL standings?
Net Run Rate is the abbreviation. The difference between a team’s “number of runs scored by the team to the number of overs faced” and “number of runs conceded by the team to the number of overs bowled” in the same competition is used to determine that team’s NRR.
How can I figure out the IPL Table’s net run rate?
In the same event, the difference between a team’s “number of runs scored by the team to the number of overs faced” and “the number of runs conceded by the team to the number of overs bowled” is used to compute its “net run rate.”
In the IPL Points Table, how many points are required to qualify?
A variable number of points may be required to advance to the Playoff stage. To advance to the following round, a team must be one of the top four teams on the points table.
